Ok so I think I will put in an application for the erasmus exchange thing to go to Finland. I was in two minds for a while, well, I still am. You get a 'grant' for erasmus (if you go to study in the EU), America is like £8000+++, even though I would love to go to NY, that just ain't gonna happen. But this is what it says on the site:

"Each year the University of the Arts London receives a limited amount of funding from the European Commission (EC) to finance Erasmus activities. UAL students may be eligible (subject to availability of funds) to apply for an ERASMUS grant.

There is no guarantee of payment or automatic entitlement to a grant and there maybe situations in which the funding will not be available. However if this is the case you will be informed of this when you submit your application which will give you ample time to make other financial arrangements or withdraw from the programme."

I made bold the bits that are, y'know, PRETTY IMPORTANT YET PRETTY DAMN VAGUE.

Also it doesn't cover everything so I would still need quite a bit of money for materials/travel/probably food etc. And I'm not thaaat keen on the course, I much prefer studying at Chelsea but the girl who went last year said it's in English which is good, but it's a totally different experience which is what I like about it - like a small town nothing like London. As for the other countries - France - it's all in French, soz but I didn't pay attention to everything Mr Cloarec said in those classes, Germany - it's in German, which isn't too bad because I find German easier than French but still, for 3 months hmmm, Sweden - Sweden would be 2nd on my list, apparently they speak a lot of English aaand it's really cool there & they have an ABBA museum but living is expensive there also they start fairly early in August I think.

So I'll just put my application in, if I get it I can make my mind up then, If I don't then I won't be too down about it because I'll go to Reading Fest instead. But I was just wandering, if I do get it and the grant stuff is ok, would I really want to take it? would I want to fill in loads of forms and paperwork while I'm studying here and then go study in a different country for 3 months or do I just want to use the money to travel around, staying in different places & go to Reading? All the students who went on the exchanges last year said it was an amazing experience but I'm not sure if they have loads of moneyzzzz. Whatever. I'll just decide later. BUT STUDENT FINANCE WANT ME TO DECIDE 'IMMEDIATELY', and if I don't go to Finland, I need to find someone to rent a flat with me because my friend might be going to America and student finance want to know if im staying at homeee or not. gosh, man. Sorry, this is more of a stream of consciousness.

I've been really really busy with uni projects but we had our hand-in today so it feels good not to think about that (until we get our marks & the feedback, then I'm allowed to crawl into a ball and cry). On Thursday I went to see Yuck @ the Electric Ballroom with Kelsey and Vanessa. Yuck were incredible, they're amazing. You can tell when they play how much they enjoy it and how much they mean it, they even played Rubber at the end which was a perfect finish and they just put so much emotion into it. The only (when I say only, I mean ONLY) bad thing was that they didn't play Coconut Bible or Automatic but that doesn't matter because I love them too much. I can't be bothered with a perfectly eloquent account of each song other than they were all amazing. I also realised I have a thing for bands that don't look alike - y'know how a lot of band members have the same kind of hair/look etc. I seem to always really like bands that look very odd, like Yuck.

A week or two ago I finished reading Black Hole by Charles Burns which is an oh so perfect graphic novel (originally a series of comics) which follows a group of high school students in the 70's who contract an STD that's going around which gives them strange physical mutations. I don't review every book I read, mostly because I can't be bothered, but this one I love so much that I want you all to know and all to read it. Well, only if it's your kind of thing. The artwork is slick & gorgeous and the story is brilliant. I actually really want to make it into a film, so Sarah OB, Jenny & anyone else, if you're free in the summer...? Last night Sarah Ob, Raji and I went to see a (free!) outdoor screening of Grease by Tower Bridge. It was gooddddd. They had subtitles on to cater for everyone but which also meant the words to all the songs were up there & everyone was singing & dancing along and it was awesome! There's something amazing about the atmosphere at outdoor screenings that you just don't get in a normal cinema. I took some pictures on my phone of everyone getting up and dancing at the last song (though the photos are pretty crappy quality) which I'll upload a bit later. The only downside was that it's not the most comfortable place to sit for 2 hours, plus the people in front of us had like 100 children with them and took up all of our foot space even though they had plenty of space in front of them and then this one kid was falling asleep on my shoe and Raji and I were like dem bitches wanna be startin sumfin.

Also, now us 3 really really really really want to go to the Rocky Horror singalong showing.

Inspired by Tyler the Creator's VMA t-shirt, Kelsey, all dat tie-dye in Beyond Retro, my life long ambition of becoming a hippie and a survey in the news quite a while back where some certain group of people voted tie-dye the worst fashion trend out of all the past fashion trends, (um, tracksuits & uggs anyone??), I decided to tie-dye some of my clothes. I was originally just going to do just one t-shirt & some white socks but I got carried away so I also did this other top I cut up and this dress that makes me look preggerz. I didn't measure anything exactly because I didn't use up the whole packets of dye and I couldn't be bothered with working out the new measurements and water:dye:salt ratios because I get impatient with these things & just want to get stuck in. So the colours didn't come out as bright as I originally intended (like they look real nice & bright hanging on the washing line when they're wet) but then you have to rinse out the excess dye and let them dry and they're kind of almost pastel shades now, but still yummy & colourful and I love them.

I got this old old old copy of Treasure Island at the vintage/antiques market at Spitalfield market for ONE POUND. There was also a Swedish dictionary in the £1 bit that Kelsey and I debated on getting and decided we probably wouldn't use it seen as we don't plan on going to Sweden any time soon and we don't know anyone who speaks it. Although in heinsight it would've been useful to take to IKEA.
And I found these old letter beads that I didn't use when I was like 10 or something so I made a bracelet out of them. Instead of saying ~~slut~~ or ~~u suk~~ like a lot of the beaded bracelets that people are making on the Tumblr-sphere, I decided to spell out one of my favourite quotes - 'I like it because it's ugly' from On the Road. It was then I realised I didn't have any A's, Y's or enough E's & S's.

Batman Live

Yesterday Mala and I went to the opening night of Batman Live, the World Arena Tour. It was amazing! We were at the front so, as Mala said, the clowns would jump out in front of us, Mala got given a circus leaflet that only a few were given, and loaaads of batman confetti fell on us. Being the scavenging-trampy-art-students that we are, we picked loads up off the floor and stuffed it in our bags. Yes, we seemed to be the only ones.
Anyway, visually it was stunning. The set design, the costume design, the acrobatics and the magic tricks - all were incredible. I'm a very visual person so all of it inspired me quite a lot to get creating or something. Other little things I liked was how they incorporated the comic/graphic novel imagery on the screen and also how they didn't make it too child-friendly, some bits were pretty creepy like the scene in Arkham Asylum, they had extremely creepy looking dummies in stray jackets hanging on chains all around the stage. Creepy but so perfect, because that's one of the things I like about Batman more so than Spiderman or Superman, there's more of a psychotic element to it, the villains are all a bit more mentally unstable, and it's darker - which is one of the reasons Christopher Nolan's films are so good, they capture the darkness of the story and the characters.
Oh also the cast were incredibly talented!

here's a quick photos Mala took of the some of the stage before it started. People were taking photos throughout but I we decided not to, even though it would have been pretty cool, you end up worrying and caring about getting good photos than actually enjoying the story and the show - like at gigs.

Also it was adorable seeing little kids in capes and masks and running around and fighting with no-one, just air, pretending they were batman. That feeling of being a kid and wanting to be a superhero and it actually feeling possible makes you feel pretty indestructible.

These are the books I've read over the summer. I don't read as much as I would like during winter//term time because I'm usually so busy with work and even when I'm commuting I get too tired to read on the train. Even though this is the case, it never stops me buying books so I had all these to catch up on (minus A Scanner Darkly which is my brother's). So yeah, I finished all of these except for Franny and Zooey which is split into two 'chapters', the first being Franny, the second being Zooey, I enjoyed the first but I just couldn't get into the second so I didn't go on. Apart from that I pretty much enjoyed them all.

I won't do a super in-depth amazing review of them because A) I have to go and tidy my room (it's quite terribly messy) and B) I can't really be bothered (which is usually the attitude that leads to my room becoming quite terribly messy)

ok but my favourite was probably On the Road - and I can't wait to see how it gets translated into film!

oh oh and when I can be bothered I'll scan in and upload some drawings I've done lately, from camping & in Cyprus.

In Cyprus, the tv in our room has 90% Turkish tv channels, one Japanese/American channel, BBC World News and a music channel. You've probably heard this song already - I heard it a while back, before Cyprus, but I hadn't seen the video and omg I love it. The outfit, the dancing, the lighting, the one continuous shot, it's so simple but it's brilliant. I'm not that much of a fan of dance/pop music but it's not hard to see that Robyn has so much more talent than bloody Katy Perry but y'know, she doesn't constantly show her boobs so of course she's not as popular.

Anyway, when I saw the video I felt the need to tell you guys that I liked it and I wondered why I felt the need to do that. It's not like it's going to make that much of a difference to either of our lives. You guys have probably seen it or probably don't care and the only difference it would make to my life would be that I would know that you would know that I like it.

I just find it funny that in this age of blogging, we all feel the need to tell the world (or in my case, my 15 followers --el oh el--) about stuff like this. We feel the need to tell people what we thought of that certain movie, or that we're listening to this certain song, or this is the outfit I'm wearing today.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about it or saying it's stupid, I've done all 3 of those things above at one point or the other, I just find it quite intriguing that we feel the need to publish these things and I wonder why we want to. I guess it's a good thing that we value our own opinions that much? Maybe. I guess as long as it doesn't cross the line into vanity or even a kind of dictatorship? haa, I don't know.

We went to the outdoor cinema event at Somerset House where they were showing Scott Pilgrim vs the World and I think it's safe to say I enjoyed it more than when I saw it the first time (and second, and third...) because you knew that everyone there actually liked the film and wanted to see it and enjoyed it as much as yourself. Some of the editorials in the latest issue of Pigeons and Peacocks are so perfect. The colours, the patterns, the clashing, the channeling of this tumblr-tacky-kitsch-90’s/00’s-nostalgia-revival - they did it all so gloriously.

The other day we watched the Tree of Life. One of the most beautiful films I've seen. Of course it wasn't conventional or had a normal linear narrative, which caused a lot of people to either walk out or slag it off during the film, but it was amazing. It was probably one you have to watch for a second time but the acting was pretty amazing, especially as there wasn't much dialogue, there was a lot said through their faces, especially the boys. And lots of people have said there wasn't a story but I thought the story was pretty clear. The cinematography was something else - every frame was beautiful. The only thing I didn't like about it was possibly the end - it was a bit too religious for my liking.

Lately I've seen lots of these kind of photo glass necklaces, and I really wanted some like the ones from Flamingo Cupcake's etsy and Mandaroux's etsy. It's roughly about £10 for a necklace and that doesn't include shipping from the US, although all the etsy shops I looked at didn't even ship to the UK anyway. So I researched how to make them, ordered the equipment (it's not much, all you need are the pieces of glass, diamond glaze & a special type of superglue) which came to £20, and made a few:(Duckie from Pretty in Pink, I added a bit of lace but you can't really see it, Carlton Banks, and Veronica & JD from Heathers)

The Summer Fete stall wasn't too successful, only selling 7 bows. It was a tough crowd (dem kidz) as the children always had to run off to ask the parents for money then they'd either get distracted or their parents would say no. They also seemed to want things cheaper but y'know, I spend quite a bit of time and effort making these and they range from £3-£7 which is pretty cheap for handmade things compared to things you would find elsewhere. Also because the date got changed so much, not as many people turned out as there usually is apparently. Still, £40 ain't bad, and a few mothers/teachers picked up some leaflets for the Romford market stall and they seemed pretty interested in going to that. Anyway it was a good experience, and Sarah and I have learnt some enticing-people-in-by-not-being-too-creepy techniques for the next stall, except when we smile. That turns everyone away. SOZ.

Also we thought we could dress Sarah up as a giant bow (she wanted to be naked but we were like no, sarah, no.) and then get her to run through Romtown shouting and screaming at the top of her lungs with a kind of I've-been-traipsing-through-the-desert-but-just-found-ice-cold-water type of desperation in her voice saying 'THESE BOWS THESE BOWS ARE SO AMAZING' or something along those lines.

On Friday Sarah and I headed off to Hyde Park for Hard Rock Calling 2011. Fair enough, the line-up wasn't that great (which was very disappointing considering previous years were pretty good) but the headliner was The Killers.

One of my favourite bands (ever). I've seen them once before but that was at the O2 with seating but thissss, this was one of the most amazing nights of live music I've had.

It's hard to describe how good it was because y'know, you had to be there. but it was raining the whole night, Brandon looked fuiegaiufhcaeilufh beautiful and the crowd were pretty electric and the atmosphere was amazing and we were all literally soaking wet and the music omg they sounded incredible, so amazing. I know I'm not doing it justice in words but it would be a night worth re-living. We also made friends in the crowd, it was cool cos we didn't know each other but we were sinking our hearts out to these happy strangers.

Saturday was my birthday and I got a drinking cap:

So I've been making hair bows to sell at my mum's school summer fete, during winter I sold a few and made like £80 which isn't too bad, also one of our friends said she'll take some into her work place etc. Some are hairbands, some are clips. As I'll be selling them mostly to school children at the fete, I tried to 'cater' for children with a few, hence lots of pink (I don't like the idea of girls = pink, boys = blue but hey i need the money). These photos were taken a while ago, I've made like over 50 now and my fingertips aren't very grateful ( I'm like the serial killer in Se7en when he has no fingertip skin). Here are some of the scans of the photos, I love love love how analouge cameras always capture light so beautifully, I haven't mastered how to do that with digital yet, but I don't think it's possible because you can't beat film. This proves I clearly take too many photos of my cat, and there's more on flickr. The plant below we've had in the house for 20 years and it's the first time it's flowered since my parent's got it so my mum got excited and told me to photograph it.

I couldn't work out whether i like this one upside down or not so whatevs.

The other night I went to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert at Palace Theatre near Leicester Square with Raji, Kelsey & Sarah OB. If you didn't know already, it's about drag queens. It was pretty good and so camp I think I may have actually turned into a gay man. The things I liked most were the costumes, they were pretty amazing and over-the-top (wouldn't expect anything less) - and the set design was great. Also, like Kelsey mentioned, I like seeing the little people run around backstage (which we could from where we were sitting), like when I'm watching films I sometimes like seeing people's faces & their reaction. Very Amelie, I know, but it's interessant.
Also, thank you Raji for the blogger award!! Much appreciated andd I'll make a post soon but I'm lazy atm; hence this having no pictures. Well, I didn't even take any photos that day because it was pouring down with rain and everything looked dull.

My sole purpose in life is not to be average and grow up to have a 9-5 job and work solely to pay off my taxes and spend my time worrying about those such things but this is what happens to most adults so do they just forget their 'rebellious' teenage thoughts and dreams and accept that this is life, or is it just easier to fit into a society that has created roles like these for us, or as we grow up do we realize that these are just dreams and thoughts of a teenage mind?

I hope not because I want to trek through jungles and meet Aboriginal tribes and go on an American Roadtrip and travel around Europe in a VW van and have time to lie on a car bonnet and enjoy the stars and just see the world and save the animals and take photos of things that none of the other tourists take photos of and live a life worthy of movie-character-life potential and loads of other things because I can't think of much worse than living and dying on a planet like ours and not enjoy it and explore it to it's full capacity.

My sole purpose in life is not to be average but I'm worried that it will be and I realize that it will probably be quite difficult to break out of the 'mold' but I hope I do.

Apologies for my lack of punctuation but this is just a rambling for my mind so I just type as it comes to me. Haters gonna hate.

Also my mum was buying some presents for her friends and she saw this and bought it for me. It contained two fridge magnets, a mini quote book, a shot glass (you know how much I love my alcohol) and a fake tooth!

Today I went to a one year old's birthday party. I wore my dress with lots of little black cats on and my creepers.

The Naked & Famous @ Shepherds Bush Empire

So last night Sarah, Mala and I went to see The Naked & Famous play at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. The supporting acts were Nedry & Alpines, which were (imo) okaayy, like, they were good, just not my thing.

I was actually feeling quite tired after those two but once TNAF came on, the adrenaline kicked in.

EVERYTHING WAS NAKED & FAMOUS AND NOTHING HURT.

The best songs by far, partly because they were my favourites off the album and partly because of how excited the crowd were during them, were No Way, Punching in a Dream, Young Blood and Girl Like You.

IT WAS JUST SO GOOD.

So much energy in the room.

And it was really cute because they were saying that this was the biggest venue/crowd they've played in london and you could tell how overwhelmed and grateful they looked when the crowd were cheering and clapping.

I also enjoyed the little things of the night like that gig smell (that i almost forgot seen as the last live music I went to was in August), walking home in the empty streets and marmite on toast at midnight.

I would like another gig now please.
